prenatalaPregnancy yoga is suitable for mums-to-be from 15 weeks onwards. This style of yoga is a lovely gentle, supportive and nourishing practice which will help you enjoy your pregnancy and also alleviate the common ailments sometimes experienced by expectant mums, such as back pain and pelvic girdle pain, aching joints, tiredness, fatigue and breathlessness.

In a pre-natal yoga session you will learn a combination of yoga positions and movements to create comfort and space for you and your baby. You will learn breathing techniques to help you through your pregnancy and through childbirth itself and you will experience some lovely deep relaxation techniques, helping you stay calm, sleep better and relieve the anxieties associated with pregnancy and childbirth.

A regular practice of gentle yoga throughout your pregnancy is a wonderful way to keep your body healthy and supple without over-exertion, increase energy, improve sleep and ultimately connect with your baby through sound and visualisation techniques.

pregnancy & post natal yogaGillian is a fully qualified Sitaram pregnancy yoga teacher and teaches a weekly Monday evening pregnancy yoga class at The Yoga Barre in Ilkley. She is also available for 1-1s and small private groups in the surrounding villages either at your home or work.


Post-Natal Yoga

Post-natal yoga is tailored specifically for the needs of the new mum and will help you regain strength and energy after the birth of your baby. It is a gentle way of building strength again in the pelvic floor, the abdomen and back muscles and legs, and also helps relieve aches and pains associated with pregnancy, childbirth and the continuing care of your new child. Specifically, yoga can be really beneficial in alleviating pelvic, back and shoulder pain and aching joints. Relaxation techniques will help reduce fatigue and make you feel more energised, calm and relaxed, allowing you to enjoy connecting with your baby.
